The main terminal’s open! So what happens next?
August 13, 2024

Trees, views, local stores, a mezzanine to explore — the new PDX is here! And there’s still more to come.

In order to bring you the new PDX designs as soon as possible, we divided our work on the main terminal into two phases. Think of PDX as a “Wow!” in progress.

Once the terminal opened in August 2024, we said goodbye to the old security stations and post-security shops on the building’s north and south ends. During a few months this fall, while we remove the old ticket counters and give the front lobby its own glow-up, you may encounter temporary detours there.

August 2024: What’s open now

Now that the first phase of the new PDX has opened, here’s what’s you’ll find in the main terminal:

  • New airline check-in areas
  • A new public space with stadium seating and a mezzanine restaurant
  • A streamlined security process
  • 11 local shops and restaurants, with more coming fall 2024
  • More art, more music, more trees, and more views

Early 2026: The whole shebang

Once we finish remodeling the terminal’s north and south ends, we’ll tear down the construction walls. Say farewell to the detour walkways between the terminal and the concourses!

Soon you'll find:

  • 10 more local restaurants and shops
  • Permanent exit lanes, as well as more escalators and elevators down to the arrivals level
  • Shorter walks to and from your airline’s gate
  • Banks of private, all-user restrooms with tile mosaics created by local artisans
  • Two cozy areas where you can wait for arriving travelers (and take carpet selfies)
  • New airline VIP lounges
